I have a warn 2.5 and a cheap warnworks 1700. The 1700 has worked awesome on the little wolverine but I wouldn't recommend it for a larger quad. the 2.5 seems good but when I bought the foreman, I never checked the winch. It worked fine testing it. But, the first time I hooked it up, I sheered the gears off of the spool. Come to find out, the bolts had backed out that hold the 2 ends together. They sprung out and when I hit the button, it did the damage. Totally my fault for not going completely through the bike. I called a warn service center and they shipped me all the parts I needed for $40.00. Cheap fix for a great winch. I used it today hung up on a huge tree under the snow on a hill . It kicks ars! I would recommend the warn with a decent remote. Do yourself a favor and buy about 30-40 feet of aircraft grade 3/16 cable, some ferruls, and hooks. Then cut about 10 feet of the factory cable off and re-ferrul it. i did find that unless you are extremely anal about winding the cable on, it won't stack well and be a major PITA. 40 ft is perfect and you don't even have to pay attention while it's going back on the spool. A snatch block is awesome to have on board as well. It will double your winch's pulling power. Best, Steve www.dunbarphotographic.com/toys.htm

It sounds like one's got a bad battery, one's got the brushes bent or chipped from rebuilding it, and one's holding warn responsible for improper use of the winch.
I've used a lot of warn stuff, it's always been good quality stuff (not unbreakable, but definately good quality) it's been reliable, and Warn has always been awesome about standing behind it better than they have to, and getting parts for things that they couldn't (and shouldn't have had to) stand behind.

Well, a winch and the other accessories are on hold for a while. I believe my front bearing have went to shit. I noticed a clicking/ticking sound today on one side (left), came back removed the wheel and I could move the axle up, down, left, and right, with what I would call excessive movement. Any suggestions on a bearing brand. I leaning toward HL or Xtreme, and I think HFNo1 stated in another thread he was using Pivot Works from Yasky? R they sealed like HL and Xtreme?

Hi all... Newbie here. I'd like to comment on the winch issue. I have a Warn 2500lb and have had no problems with it. A buddy of mine has the same winch for about 6 months and has already stripped out the gears in it. I love mine but if I were to get another one, I think I'd go for a Ramsey or a Superwinch... Just my opinion.

The pivot works are sealed (checked a catalogue) and so are the Xtreme bearings.
