Anybody into this? I have been thinking about building one of these and wonder what is a good truck to start with. I would like to use a full size and go allout with 44s and atleast dana 60 with full front and rear lockers.

The best one I ever saw was a straight up (84?85?) Toyota 4Runner with one big modification. The front springs (but not the axle) were "rotated" rearward a good amount such that the front axle stuffed into the front of the truck at very near to 45 degrees, meaning it could launch straight into and off of any obstacle they could put in front of it. I'm sure there were upgraded shocks and what not, but that little truck, nearly stock, with stock sized "power king" snowtires won every race it ran for four or five years.

Some of the small trucks do pretty damn good with bigger axles, Ihave even wondered about a international scout.

I like those old scouts a lot, but really never get to see them. All the ones around here are rotted because of the amount of road salt, and their "salt retaining" sheet metal design, and poor corrosion protection on top of that. Nothing but a faded memory of what used to hold together the four stray tires just inside the treeline behind the south meadow... I'd love to have one though. It'd be the only one around. It's before my time, but I can just barely sort of remember my grandfather having one with a right hand drive for his mail route.

Did you ever see the scouts with the diesel motor?
