[/img]Hey guys, new to the forum thing and had a couple of questions i'd like to throw out.First is about the install of a dgl in a 2002 450 es,Missed the mailman today but will pick up from post office tomorrow.Do you need to have the ring gear milled down before assembly? Any steps that might give me trouble?I go on alot of remote rides being up here in alaska and am curious to see how much this will aid in the "hairy"stuff.have owned machine since new,has 1200 flawless miles on it.Only mods are 27 inch 589's,2" lift and a dgl and a triangle snorkit in the mail on the way.Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forum
dont quote me on this but i dont think that you need to have it milled down. not positive. i imagine that it will help out alot in the "hairy" stuff. it would give you alot better traction. if you get a chance, post some pics of your foreman. i know i need to. good luck and again, welcome to the forum.

When you get the DGL, it is sort of assembled. This is for shipping purposes only. The directions aren't clear on this point. It was not "assembled" by a mechanic, rather the pieces were slapped into the smallest, most efficient space by non-mechanic type people who'se job is shipping, not repairs. Sometimes it's right, sometimes the clutch packs are out of order, or there'll be an extra on one side and one short on the other, that sort of thing. Take the clutches out and count them, and place them in the correct order. Second, also not in the directions, but a good idea when assembling wet clutches, is to soak the disks loose in differential oil prior to assembly and installation. Once they're assembled it'll take some riding for the oil to get in there. Beyond that, the directions are excellent.

I can promise that you wouldn't be the first to slap it in right out of the box. Thankfully HL sells rebuild kits so you need not replace the whole thing over a simple clutch failure...

Well........after taking apart the dgl and inspecting last week i found that 1 of the outer tooth plates in the locker was defective(several teeth missing and quite bunged up)!!Waiting on high lifters response on the 1 plate i need.Diff is all disembled and ready to go back together once plate is replaced. It gave me time to repack my front axle joints and install the triangle snorkel kit....Damn im ansy to getter done!Im on a roll now, ordered a hmf eco-series and a twin air filter from rocky mountain yesterday and am gonna read more of the forums and get some ideas on jetting with this setup from other readers.Im thinking mabey an oem 135 or 138 but not sure, sounds like a good start.Cant wait to see how all this will spin those 27" 589's!Again thanks jake.imagine if i just slapped in that dgl

theres a 95' 300 in the paper for sale for $3000.00,not sure how much time on machine but wish i was in the market for one at this time.I dont know about elsewhere but here in alaska its a very rare find to come across a honda 4x4 for sale used and they hold there value remarkably well compared to all others. And bulletproof is the best word to describe the 300.....i wouldnt own anything else BUT a honda.I put plenty of miles on my xr 600(heavily modded by al bakers xr's only)every summer as well.RIDE RED!
