Can anyone tell me why Honda put 6.5" wide wheels on the front of the old 400 Foreman and went to 6" on the 450 while keeping 8 inch wide tires? I understand why they went with the 25" diameter on the 450. Also, are the Rubicon wheels the same size as 450 Foreman wheels? Thanks,

i dont know why honda put different wheel widths on the two different bikes, but if you wanted to put a 450 wheel on a 400 it would work just fine. and vice versa. the rubicon wheels are the same size as the foreman's. along with many others. i have some wheels on my 450 that were on a friends big bear. as long as the bolt patterns are the same. honda uses a 4/110 bolt pattern.
Welcome to Team Bad Foreman

How old of a 400 are you referring to? My 2000 had 8x25 on it.

400 Foreman bikes have 11"x6.5" wheels with 24x8x11 tires. (at least the 1997's did) 450 Foreman Bikes have 12"x6" wheels with 25x8x12 tires. The bolt patterns are the same but the diameter and width is different.
MuddnMason, How old of a 400 are you referring to? My 2000 had 8x25 on it.
I am referring to wheel widths not tire widths. My tires are 25x8x12, but my whell is 12x6. If you have a 400, could you check your wheel size and let me know if yours is 6.5" wide. If it is the same as my bros. 1997, it will be an 11"x6.5". His had 24x8x11 Goodyear Tracker ATT tires on it. Thanks guys

I bought my Foreman used off a good friend of mine. He bought it from the stealer with a 26" big foot kit on it. Sorry, I cant measure the factory wheels for ya. I am sure that our resident know it all (Jake) will shed more light on this subject.

I guess i misunderstood your question. By the way, how do you like you perfex kit foreman?? i am considering getting one soon. It's AWESOME! I got mine from www.hondapartsworld.com. Under $100 shipped. It is the absolute best thing I could have done for the ride of the Foreman. The slight lift, which I could have cared less for, is barely noticable. Most of it is gone when you sit down on the bike. It makes the ride feel like you have bought a new ATV. Steering is lightened to where it is easy to ride in 4x4 all the time. If you want a better ride, by a Perfex kit.

The whole Foreman lineup had eight inch wide tires in front, ten inches wide in the back. The Foreman had 24 inch tires on 11 inch rims. The Foreman S, Foreman ES, and Foreman Rubicon all had 25 inch tires on 12 inch rims. Different width rims are used to control the amount of sidewall bulge, to adjust ride quality, handling, tire bead stability (to prevent unseating), the acutal load capacity of the tire, and the asthetic factor of having just the right amount of "bulge" in the sidewall. Who knows what the final reason was, maybe there were many, but Honda has always used wheels and tires as an integral part of the suspension, with different sized tires or similar sized tires with different rim diameters on many of their machines. My vote is it's just a more subtle change than going to 12 inch wheels on the front.

That is a very good answer. Sounds like an educated answer and I appreciate the reply. I was just curious. I wouldn't mind having a wider set of wheels for the front of my bike, but I do not want aftermarket and I don't want to go as far as 7" in the front because of the "bulge" factor. Thanks!!
