Sipes are the small cuts that you see in the lugs and tread of radial tires. If you look on your truck tires, you will see small cuts. These create more traction in slippery conditions on hard surfaces by allowing water to move off the surface better.

So it's similar to grooving but with smaller (razor) cuts in the tire lugs ? Sounds like it should help . Might look into doing the same to my 589's

Yeah. You can see them on just about all vehicle tires, unless they are real aggressive AT tires.

Well since 589s are already block tires, siping will be good to try. And Les Shwab is going to sipe them so its all good.

Cant hurt to try it. Keep this up to date after you do it. I dont think it will help me much, dont ride a lot of rocks and such, but for someone who does ride rocks and hard pack....maybe just the thing.

Oh plz dont sipe the tires!!!! I know im new to the thread and all but sipeing is really only meant for road use...my buddy had his tires siped on his pathfinder. did good on wet roads, but when he took it to a mud drag it tore the tires all up. granted it was on a suv and mud dragging it, but still im assuming ur gona take the quad through mudd holes and stuff so sorta the same thing. sorry to rain in on the parade, but if someone already did it to there quads tires and nothin happened then my bad.

Well i have seen plenty of trucks that siped tires that do great in the mud. i dont see why it wouldnt work on rocks. you could atleast try it on the tires your about to quit using and see how they do.

I have had so so luck with siped offroad tires so I dont think I would do it again on my truck so I would not do it on my handa but I ride mostly in rocky terrain any way.
