The manual says to have valve clearance adjusted after the first 100 miles. Is this necessary? I don't think that I could do it myself and what would the charge be at a dealership?

First service is one of the most important. Should be around $60-$70 to have EVERYTHING checked at the dealer. It will run better from the first service, and I reccomend if you take any service, I'd take this one.

The average price (list on parts and flat rate time) is around 130 to 150, depending on the labor rate. Often dealers will throw an "allowance" in their margin when they sell the bikes new so that they can do the first service for less, thereby A, making you more likely to get it done so you won't be one of their irate dissatisfied customers because the bike isn't working like it should, and B, it also makes you a happy customer becaue you pay less than the people you hear from on the internet. A few dealers have gone so far as to offer it at no charge to "their" customers, but rest assured that you have paid full price for the service.
