I have a 1999 450ES and last week I started hearing a clicking or chattering in the vicinity of the valves. Well I adjusted the valves twice, an it still making the same noise, except now it comes and goes. And today when I took it on a long ride, up hill ride, it seemed as though it was loosing power, I had to gear down more than usual, and when I topped the hill the idling was very lugish, and the engine died. It started right back up,although the idling was still slow, so I headed home. By the time I go half way back, it was running quit and the idling was fine. Anyone have any ideas on this problem. I hate these kind of problems, when they come and go and you can never point to the problem. Anyway maybe someone out their may have had the same problem with your 450 and can help me out.

I am willing to bet that your pushrods are messed up. I put new pushrods in mine and everything was fixed
A lot of 450's have that chatter.
