Something is probably broken. If you can be more specific however, then so can I. I'm sure I can help get you to the bottom of it. First, is it the transmission or the gearshift mechanism? -is it an S or an ES model? -does the shifter move through it's whole range? (emergency tool kit shifter if it's an ES model) -if the shifter does move, does it move freely, like there's kind of a return spring there, but doesn't feel like it really engages anything once it gets inside the engine case? -does it shift one way but not the other, like you were able to shift up through the gears, but not down, or down through the gears but not up? -Do you know what gear the bike is in right now? Will it roll freely both forwards AND backwards, or will it roll one way but not the other? -Assuming it's in any forward or reverse gear, does holding the shifter in the fully up position allow it to roll freely in both directions? -If you can make it run, or if you remember from driving it right after the failure, does lifting the shifter still disengage the engine, like you were in neutral? -Do you have a start in gear modification? (Goes to further diagnostics). -If you start the motor, does it make noise that it should not? Any of those answers that you can provide would be of great assistance in diagnosing your issues, as well as somewhat of a description of what lead up to the failure. No signs, then poof, nothing? Abnormal feeling shifts, poor shifts, were you riding when it failed, or did it just not work one day, that sort of thing. Let me know.
