My brother has a 03' Recon ES and asked me to post this for him. His recon will only start up in choke. When he pushes it down it shuts off. To ride he has to ride with the choke on or it will die. Whats wrong and what does he need to do to fix it??? Any help would really help. Also what is the best octane gas to run in a Recon ES with 24" Gators?? I say 87 octine, but he won't listen or believe me so tell him for me!! Thanks!!

Sounds stupid, but put it on reserve and see if it works. I went through the same thing on a 250EX the other day. Put it on reserve, and if it runs, add gas.

its either his idle is too slow or the carb witch is usualy the sorce of this problem is the carb vent line might be clogged. this will cause the bike not to idle or run right open it up and check the carb line

Well, we are leaving tomorrow to go back to Florida to see if we have had any damage. So we won't have time to fix it now, but this winter when we come back I think he is going to take the carb out and clean it. This winter I also got to order a new shock because I just broke it this last summer and made a brace for it so it wouldn't rub the tire and it worked. After I buy this shock I am going to add some stock tires and buy a new Foreman. Thanks for those who replied!!
