I have a 97 400 foreman and was looking at the hl disk brake kit I have stock wheels and was wondering if the kit will work if I use 1.5" spacers? (it says you need 12" rims)

The 450 does have stock 12" rims, but, don't quote me on this, i don't think the 400's have 12".

I think that the Foremans had 11 inch wheels. The Highlifter Disk Brake Kit reaches well inside the wheel, and I would really believe that if you had spacers, you would <probably> be able to bolt it all up, but I think it'll be a compromise. It'll catch rocks and such, possibly damaging wheels and brake parts, it'll expose the brakes more than they should be, and it'll eat wheel bearings more often than it should. You'll never get a good "feel" or positive stopping with bad wheel bearings, because that'll allow the rotor to wobble inside the caliper, pushing the pads back too far. For the cost of the brake kit, I wouldn't compromise there. I would hold off until you need tires, and would get the twelve inch wheels and brakes. New would be nice, but you could also snag up a set of take-offs rims from a 450.

thanks for the help guys, my 400 came with 11" rims and I need to replace a lot of parts to get the brakes working again and I was interested in the disc brake setup but I just was curious if it would work with my current wheels. I think i will just repair my stock brakes
