I recently got a great deal on a Foreman 450 ES. I came with a 2 inch lift kit and ITP rims and 28 tires. it is sweet looking. I wasnt all that happy with the ES as i and most grew up with manual shifting, but it has some plus's to it.
Ok when i go for a ride or some times on start up it rev's high enuff to prevent shifting. i have to choke it a little to get the rpms down in order to shift it. This is a real hassle on the trails when you need to reverse direction and shifting between 1st and forward in a tight area. When the high Idel does happen it is fine throttle cable seems fine to.
this might provide a clue it will back fire when i shut down the machine with a loud bang.
there is a round black knob/dial under the fuel bowl that i have not found out what it is for yet . i would imagine possible air mixture .
============================
I would also like to know how to ID this bikes year. Im told it is a 99 or a 2000. i have to order a shop manual and wouldlike to get the correct manual. the only id i can find onthe bike as it says it is a TRX450ESx. where can i find the VIN on it. =========================
Looking for a good site that has parts and schematics for the foreman ES
thanks you in advance BostonBeaner

Ok are you saying it only idles fast when its cold......on start up? and than is ok after it gets hot? There is a black knob on the right side of the carb that is the idle set screw, however its not under the bowl, dont know if thats what you are referring to or not? As far as it backfiring that can be caused by unburned fuel in the tail pipe, little on the rich side, what does the plug look like?

EZ
it does the fast idle sporatically on start up (COLD). but 90% of the time after it heats up or been riding for a while. the plg is brand new. i need to get a book on the carb to see what im dealing with . but with this bike being computerized i was wondering if the idle was being control by the computer or sensor

The round black knob is the idle adjustment. The air fuel mix is under the carb and you need a screwdriver to adjust it. On a stock bike it should be 2 1/2 turns out.

Well
with a little DNCing (Dusting N Cleaning)
I was able to cure the high idle and back fire prob.
this is two fold
one the fuel bowl was filthy and causing the high idle issue as it had muck in it than most trails do.
and the back firing was water in the fuel tank. I found this on do an exam of the tank . i look in with a flash light and it looked like my tank was lined with gold nuggets i couldnt believe it so i got a clean stick moved the nuggets a bit and man I was a bit heated. any ways off comes the tank and i flushed it out in to a 5 gal white bucket I knew i had dirt /sandd in the tank as i could see it what i didnt know was there was water in the tank. I was quite surpurprised as the tanks dont allow you to see the water when installed.
oh well nothing like crash and burn is how you learn. was ok though it got me to become familiar with the lovely creature.
